Informed. Empowered. Prepared.

We have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends. —Mary McLeod Bethune

Lauren is a special educator that brings clarity to the process…

While completing college, Lauren made a personal commitment to work towards educational justice where ALL children—regardless of their abilities and/or disabilities—would receive an equitable and culturally responsive education. Now, as a highly effective special education teacher-leader and licensed reading specialist, she has learned that in order to effectively serve students with disabilities, parents and all stakeholders must have a clear understanding of the many layers that accompany the special education process.

With 10 years of experience, Lauren has attended hundreds of IEP meetings and helped to reassure parents that are confused, unsure, and sometimes intimated by the special education process. This is through no fault of their own. Often adequate time and care is not taken to ensure families’ equitable involvement in the process. Lauren’s work and passion is deeply rooted in finding transformational solutions for students with disabilities. Whether its informing a parent of the intricacies of special education policies, or empowering parents to take ownership of advocating for what their child deserves, or preparing parents for meetings and conversations with the school, Lauren will work with families to ensure they are informed, empowered, and prepared.
